SMARTER goals

Big Idea: At the halfway point of high school, how am I doing in meeting my goals of being ready for college and/or a career? 

After today I should be able to: identify (Costa’s Level 1) the importance of setting short- and long-term goals in relation to my career aspirations and evaluate (Costa’s Level 2) my own skills and interests. 

Agenda:

  1. If you need to, find the part in the video about SMARTER goals. You can also look at your notes.
  2. You will create a one-pager about your SMARTER goal.
    1. Fold a piece of paper into four squares.
    2. In the top right square, write the word SMARTER and fill in the information for each letter for a goal you can accomplish by the end of the school year. Here is an image to help you out if you are having trouble.
    3. In the top left box, write down steps you will do or habits you will need to form in order to achieve the goal.
    4. In the bottom right box, write a few sentences about why this goal has been hard for you to achieve in the past.
    5. In the bottom left box, draw or trace a picture of you achieving your goal and getting the reward you chose. You can also use emojis if you want.
  3. Take notes on this video for our second set of AVID notes. You will have a full binder check on Friday.

  3. Prepare for full binder check this Friday. You will need two AVID notes and 8 academic notes.
  4. The rest of the time you can work on assignments that need to get done. You can break into groups and work on common assignments.
