Things on the to-do list:
- According to Gee, a discourse functions as an identity kit, a type of costume or set of instructions that makes individuals recognizable to others. It provides meaning to actions within specific social contexts, such as dressing and speaking in particular ways at a baseball game.
- The ability to operate within a discourse demonstrates literacy in that discourse; conversely, failing to do so indicates illiteracy in that context. For example, acting like a baseball fan in a restaurant or classroom shows illiteracy in those respective discourses.
