After today I should be able to: examine and reflect (Costa’s Level 3) to produce an authentic set of notes to demonstrate (Costa’s Level 2) and refine my skills.

Big Idea: How can focused note-taking support my current and future academic and career success?

After today I should be able to: explain (Costa’s Level 2) why AVID’s Focused Note-Taking Process is important so that I can transfer these skills to my current and future academic and career success.

First Day

Big Idea: Getting to know my classmates and having fun

After today I should be able to: find the agenda for each day in AVID and access the AVID Google Classroom.

Agenda:

  2. Join AVID Google Classroom
  3. First day of school slides
  4. Photo scavenger hunt. I will break you into teams of four. You need to be the first team to take the following photos and post them to our Padlet wall:
    1. Spell the word AVID using your bodies
    2. Take a photo with someone from the office where everyone is serious but one person
    3. Do jazz hands in front of one of the classroom doors
    4. Recreate a meme
    5. Pretend to be statues by the lunch tables
    6. Take a picture with flowers
    7. Mirror a staff member: find a staff member and have everyone striking the same pose
    8. Invisible Rope: Pretend to hold an "invisible rope" and have your team members act like they're being pulled in opposite directions.
    9. T-Rex Arms: Take a group photo where everyone has their arms tucked in like T-Rex arms, making a humorous scene.
    10. Upside Down Reading: Capture a photo of someone pretending to read a book or newspaper upside down in a library or study area.
    11. Shadow Puppets: Create amusing and recognizable shadow puppets on a wall or surface using your hands.
    12. Mystery Investigator: Pose as detectives investigating a "crime scene" (it could be a spilled drink or a fallen backpack).
    13. Invisible Hula Hoop: Capture a picture of someone twirling an "invisible" hula hoop around their waist.
    14. Frog Leap: Capture a mid-air shot of someone leaping across a pathway as if they were a frog.
    15.  Human Knot: Form a human knot with your team members and take a photo before trying to untangle yourselves.
    16. Extreme Reading: Find unexpected or humorous places to read a book.
    17. Find something round and pretend it's a crystal ball
    18. Make a frozen jumping pose in front of the round planter near the office.
